Good Bosses Take the Time to Brighten People’s Days
When an employee apears to be down, good bosses notice and take the time to build them back up. They go to them and say something like, “You seem kind of down today, is everything all right?” Then they make sure they listen to what that person has to say and then look for ways to lighten their load. Taking a personal interest like this communicates the deepest form of caring. Even if the employee doesn’t want to talk about why they’re down, they will always remember that their boss cared enough to ask. This not only energizes the employee who down; it also gives them every incentive to go the extra mile for their boss. My boss is the exact opposite of this which tells me and my coworkers that she doesn’t care about anyone but herself. As a result, we don’t work any harder than we have to!
This is exactly how my current boss is–he never misses an opportunity to make my day. As a result, I look forward to coming to work each day.
I dread talking to my boss/company owner. He never misses an opportunity to tell you everything we are doing wrong and never tells us what we are doing well.
No matter what, we feel as if we can do no right. Moral is way down.
